The first three paintings have been commissioned to the renowned Russian artist, Natalia Tsarkova, official portrait painter of three popes: John Paul I, John Paul II and our present Pope, Benedict XVI. These original oil-on-canvas compositions will depict the three great theological virtues of faith, hope and love.

The first painting presents the theological virtue of hope and is entitled Our Lady of Light . It depicts the arrival of five new mysteries of the Rosary, the Mysteries of Light, introduced by Pope John Paul II in his Apostolic Letter Rosarium Virginis Mariae (The Rosary of the Virgin Mary), which he promulgated on 16 October, 2002, the beginning of the twenty-fifth year of his pontificate.

On 7 December, 2004, Our Lady of Light was placed in the personal library of Pope John Paul II to aid him in his Advent reflection and meditation. The Holy Father received Natalia Tsarkova on 23 December. She explained the painting to him and, at the end of the audience, John Paul II gave the painting his Apostolic blessing and requested that Our Lady of Light remain in the Vatican throughout the Christmas season. It was to be his last Christmas on earth.

Our Lady of Light illumined the Papal Library until 8 January, 2005, when it was transported back to Natalia’s studio in Rome. On 29 April, 2005, the painting was brought to the United States in preparation for the unveiling in the United States Capitol Building in Washington, DC on 19 May, 2005. The original painting is currently on tour.

In March 2007, Primavera Fine Art Foundation arranged for Natalia Tsarkova to commence work on preliminary sketches of the second commission, another oil-on-canvas painting that will depict the theological virtue of love. Ms. Tsarkova states this will be completed in early 2009. Click here to learn about sponsorship opportunities. Thank you for your continued support.
